The Inside Scoop . . .

The Story of "Nothin' Better
Than This" . . .
I left Northern Nevada on January 4, 2006
on my motorcycle, during a break between
snow storms. I headed south, searching for
warm weather and a place to heal up men-
tally having been through a divorce, having
recovered from a serious health issue, and
having been forced from a job that I really
enjoyed.

I began writing on the very first day of the
ride. Although I intended to be gone for two
months, it was actually six months before I
returned.

What a time of reflection, renewal, and self-
discovery it was. As I wrote, I worked hard to
get down to the real issues of life, not to
candy-coat things, not to romanticize the
issues, but to be honest with myself and
about myself.

The journey took me south into Mexico,
then east across the southern US. I rode,
I camped, I wrote. Eventually, upon my
arrival in Florida, I lived aboard my
best friend's sailboat in Fort Myers Beach,
FL for three months, before finally turning
around and heading for home.
By the time I arrived back in Nevada, I had ridden over 12,000 miles on my motorcycle, I had traveled another 8,000 miles via various ships, boats, and sailing vessels, and I was a much more balanced, healthy, and happy person.

The result of that six months is documented in
the music I wrote during that time, and although it's highly personal (even though I've taken some artistic license), people seem to relate, and their reactions have been highly encouraging.

It seems that many of the life experiences I share in my music are not just my personal story, but are the same issues faced by many others.

I wrote the title track while studio sessions were in progress (a six-month process), and after writing it, I realized that I had come full circle. It's a happy little love song, and the joy that I was writing about was not only the result of discovering love again, and not just a result of finding myself and learning to like myself again. It's about the realization that life is not only short, but it's what we make it.

We don't know what the future holds, but for me, right here, right now . . .
There's nothin' better than this !
